Just an Online Poker Beginner?
There are three basic ways to play online poker, either play in fun or free mode, where you play exactly as any other game but there is no money at risk. You can play poker for real money in the cash or “ring” games, and finally there are tournaments, of which there are two distinct styles.
Play For Free Never played before, then you should maybe try the Play Money tables and get used to the unique version of poker that is online poker software. Every company has a different product, make sure you know how they work before you put your hard earned bankroll into play.
Play For Real You’ve played for fun, now you want some real excitement, so it’s time to make your first deposit and choose a game. Always play a game where your bankroll has room to allow for a few unlucky hands. Remember if you sit down with ten players, the odds are that the first couple of hands will not go your way, so allow for this by having enough in your balance to take advantage when those Aces come your way. If you select a limit table where the stakes are $0.50/$1, then a good guide is to have 100 times this at the table. So a $100 balance would be sensible. If you fancy the Pot Limit or No Limit tables, don’t sit down with your whole balance, remember it may all go in one hand if you find a monster, and still get unlucky, so keep some in reserve to enable you to get back in the game.
Tournaments Most sites also have multi table tournaments and single table tournaments known as Sit’n’Go’s. You may find it easier to start on the single table games where you know how much you are risking before you start, and with the top three getting paid in a ten seat table that will normally last a little over an hour, it is a relatively easy and cheap way to gain poker tournament experience. In multi table poker tournaments your small buy-in may go a long way, you may even hit the big pay day worth thousands of dollars. Remember, these may last several hours so allow yourself the free time to complete the tournament in case you make that prestigious final table.
